SIM Free Android Smartphone £79.99 @ Aldi – Medion E4001
I keep and eye on the weekly special offers at the discount supermarkets Aldi and Lidl and have just spotted that from Thursday 7th August 2014 Aldi wil be offering Medion E4001 Android smartphone for £79.99.
This is a SIM free phone so it does not come with a SIM card and is not locked to a network meaning can be used on with any provider. This makes it ideal as a pay as you go upgrade or as a replacement for contract phone with issues, a cracked screen for instance. You just need to take the SIM card out of you old phone, slip it into this one and you are away.
I see that Asda also list the Medion E4001 Android smartphone on their web site but as I write it says they are out of stock.
The Aldi price looked a good deal so I decided to see what else is out there and discovered that Carphone Warehouse are offering the Huawei Ascend Y330 in coral pink SIM free at the same price and that Amazon have the black version of the Huawei Ascend Y330 Sim Free Smartphone for an even lower price.
The Medion E4001 and Huawei Ascend Y330 look to have similar specifications with the Huawei mobile phone winning on both processor speed and camera resolution.
The Specifications for the Medion E4001 smartphone are:
- 4″ screen – 800 x 480 pixels
- Android 4.0 operating system
- 2 mega pixel camera
- 4GB internal memory expandable to 32GB via an optional micro SDHC memory card
- WiFi WLAN 802.11 B/G/N and Bluetooth 2.1
Both the Medion E4001 and the Huawei Y330 take standard mini SIM cards, if you need to use a smaller nano or micro SIM card as used in modern high end phones you would need an adapter, these can be bought from various places including Amazon.
