Is your Samsung Smart TV spying on you?

Back in November 2013 a story hit the news when a blogger called DoctorBeet wrote about discovering his new LG Smart TV was collecting information on his viewing habits and sending them back over the internet to allow targeted advertising. This was widely reported at the time including the article ‘LG investigates Smart TV ‘unauthorised spying’ claim‘ on the BBC News web pages.

It now seems LG are not the only ones being taken to task over information gathered by their Smart televisions.

Online journal The Daily Beast has published an article titled ‘Your Samsung SmartTV Is Spying on You, Basically‘ in which they reveal the following sentence in Samsung’s privacy policy.

“Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party,”

No doubt Samsung has no real interest in the content of your conversations but it is slightly disturbing to find that their voice command software could be capturing all you tittle tattle and relaying it back to Samsung or a third party employed by them.
